- There are various learning routes that will assist learners in obtaining a qualification within the National Qualification Framework (NQF) from level 1 – 10, of which Learnerships are one of the routes.
- A Learnership includes both instructional learning (a theory learning component, which usually takes place in a formal classroom) and structured, practical workplace experience (a practical component), which takes place on a construction site. A learnership relates to a specific occupation and involves a full qualification.
Sectorial Determination 5: Learnerships
The employment of learner workers, which includes all learnership agreements and skills development programmes is governed by the Sectorial Determinaton .
This determination sets the following:
- minimum wages;
- working hours;
- number of leave days; and
- termination rules.
