🚨 Construction Mafia Crisis
745 extortion cases reported with 240 arrests since November 2024. The criminal syndicate has hijacked over 180 projects, causing an estimated R63 billion in economic damage according to National Treasury.
Minister Dean Macpherson stated: “We are turning the tide” but warned that corruption remains deeply entrenched in procurement systems.
🚧 Major Infrastructure Project Alert
SANRAL’s Huguenot Tunnel Upgrade on the N1 outside Paarl is now at tender stage. This will be the largest civil construction project in Western Cape for decades, with an estimated value of over R6 billion.
