The South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions
(SACPCMP)

The SACPCMP is the gazetted statutory body for the registration of Construction Health and Safety Practitioners established in terms of section 2 of the Project and Construction Management Professions Act (Act 48 of 2000).

Professional registration categories: –

  • Construction Health and Safety Agent ( PrCHSA);
  • Construction Health and Safety Manager ( CHSM); and
  • Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO)

To this end, all safety professionals working within the construction sector must be registered with SACPCMP.

Between 2013 and 2017, the SACPCMP have received over 14,000 applications for registration in the abovementioned categories, with only approximately 2,500 registrations completed. Though the backlog in registrations is partially a result of administrative challenges, over 1,700 applications have been archived due to lack of complete information and ‘no progress’. The SACPCMP cites two main reasons for the archiving of registrations: –

  1. Providing information and responding to enquires or requests (516 applicantions cannot progress to registration due to non-response from applicant)
  2. Payment of outstanding fees (583 applicantions cannot progress due to non-payment by applicant)

SAFCEC urges our members to manage this process in the abovementioned areas of their control, and to verify whether their employees are still active in the registration process.

SAFCEC has been involved in the development of the registration process for Construction Health and Safety Practitioners, and our SHERQ advisors are committed to advising our members on requirements and routes to registration.
